REGISTRATION

If you are staying in Denmark for more than 90 days, you must register with the Danish authorities to obtain a Social Security number (CPR number). This is a crucial step, as it grants you access to essential services, including healthcare and other public benefits. Once registered, you will have the same right to national healthcare services as Danish citizens.

You will also need to register your residential address and choose a general practitioner (GP). If you have an income in Denmark, you must also register with the tax authorities (SKAT) to ensure correct taxation.

The registration process varies depending on your nationality. Requirements differ for Nordic citizens, EU/EEA citizens, and non-EU/EEA citizens, each following specific procedures set by the Danish authorities.

School starts in the year the child turns 6, beginning with year zero (børnehaveklasse/kindergarten class) and continuing through ninth or tenth grade. After that, most Danish students attend a two- to three-year upper secondary education, which can lead to university or other higher education pathways.

Weather permitting, we’ll explore the city by bike—the Danish way and often the best way to get around in many Danish towns and cities.
